Microsoft's One Drive

One Drive

I really enjoy using One Drive. I prefer one drive over Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud for a few reasons. If you have a Word, PowerPoint, or Excel document, you can edit them online using Word Online, PowerPoint Online, or Excel Online. Sure, people argue that you can use Google Docs, Slides, and Spreadsheet. News Flash: It's vastly inferior to MS Office.

Google Drive & One Drive

They offer the same core features -- yes. And yes -- Google Docs, Slides, and Spreadsheet are free while MS Office is a paid service.

Although -- as far as I know, Word Online, PowerPoint Online and Excel Online are all free -- since 5GB of One Drive is free. And yes, you can use Word Online, PowerPoint Online, and Excel Online with the free version of One Drive.

But, with Office 365 Personal, you get all of MS Office, and also 1TB of storage. That's $6.99 per month (Equivalent to $83.88 a year) or you could pay for the full year for $69.99. If you wanted 1TB for Google Drive, it's $9.99 per month ($119.88 a year). There is no discount for paying for the full year.

Yes, you could also buy Office Home & Student 2016 for $149.99, but that doesn't include the 1TB storage. If you are just interested in MS Office, then this is obviously the way to go -- assuming you are a student, of course.

More On Google Drive

In case you were curious, Google's services are locked to Google Drive. This isn't all that bad, if you always use Google Drive, but I don't use Google Drive all that much, so I can't use really use those services. Also, you don't need to buy the extra storage for Google. They offer 15GB free -- shared with GMAIL, DRIVE, PHOTOS. If you don't use cloud storage all that much, then 15GB is more than enough.. But for those of you who use programs like Docs, Slides, or Spreadsheets extremely often, it's likely you will want or need more than 15GB. -- If that's the case, it would be cheaper to go MS Office Personal.

My Story On Cloud Storage

Of course, you could go and use an external hard drive or USB flash drive, but for starters - cloud storage is convenient and you aren't forced to carry the external hard drive or flash drive. An external hard drive or flash drive adds extra weight. Whether it's 2 ounces or 2 pounds, that's still extra weight that not everyone wants to carry. Also, living near the Greater New York City area -- I've noticed how fast paced things are -- at least in the Greater New York area. People seem to never have enough time to do anything in the Great New York City area. Imagine having to present something today for a promotion -- or any reason, and when you arrive to work, you realize that you forgot your USB flash drive or external hard drive. THAT WOULD SUCK And I know there are going to be people who argue -- You should always make sure you have everything before you leave or house... Or something along those lines. But if you don't live in or near the Greater New York City area, you probably don't know how fast paced it is over here. Many people also work more than 40 hours a week -- which is the "normal" full-time work week. Fast pace + Long Hours = Sometimes Forgetting

Anyway - I've gone on a tangent... I LIKE ONE DRIVE! But you really can't go wrong with any cloud storage. It's mostly about preference. If you are an iOS user, chances are high you'll be using iCloud. I have used iCloud for a bit and personally don't like it. Yes, the free version offers the same amount of storage as One Drive -- which is 5GB -- iCloud doesn't have Word Online, PowerPoint Online, or Excel Online. Maybe it's because I've never really gotten into the iPhone. Although iPhone's are great, I started with android and never switched... Although, the latest iPhone iPhone SE has been pretty tempting!
